Recycling and Waste Reduction Classes at Palouse and Pullman, Wash., in March

Judi Dunn-Gray, Recycling & Waste Reduction, will be teaching classes on Composting at the Palouse Library in March, and also at the Commercial exhibitors Event in Pullman, on March 16, & 17, 2012. (Check the Palouse Branch Whitman County Library calendar for dates.

"Both Moscow and Whitman County are public entities. The compost classes and information are free. This is an opportunity for residents of two counties to own (at cost) their own compost machine. Once they preorder we will get a price break and only charge what the costs will be. No profit is made on this. It is a public service," Dunn-Gray said.

Moscow Recycling and Whitman County Recycling are pleased to sponsor a sale of the Earth Machine composter, for back yard composting.

This backyard composter will help you to compost most of the organic waste produced in your home. The EPA estimates the average household can divert as much as 650 pounds of organic waste every year! By diverting this material, it helps to keep our solid waste costs as low as possible.

The Earth Machine features a large 80 gallon capacity, is large enough for a family of five, comes with composting instructions and is made from recycled plastic!

The Earth Machine will be sold at cost (approximately $45, or less depending on how many are ordered.) The composter will need to be pre-ordered before March 16, 2012.

2012 Ecology Youth Corps Jobs

"Dependent upon final Legislative budget outcomes for July 1, 2012-June 30, 2013, the Department of Ecology in the Eastern Regional Office (ERO) is planning to hire crews in multiple locations for the summer of 2012. Only applicants available to work for a full session will be considered for employment. APPLICATION DEADLINE: February 1, 2012 - April 2, 2012."

• Why do teens want this job? For the pay? The socialization with other friends? The prestige of winning?
• What makes it better than jobs in retail or fast-food?
• Hundreds apply, but less than 10% are hired --- how many make the cut to interview status (the middle step) and how are they chosen?
• Do the 'employers' look for what is considered an overall hard worker or do low-income or troubled teens get preference?
• Is there a physical requirement? Would it matter if the teen is overweight?
• What sort of references do successful teens use?
• How can a teen prepare to be competitive for the job next year?
• Do the teens like to work in the heat with vests on? Will they reapply for this job next year?
• Do they get to wear shorts or are pants required due to possible sunburn and bugs?
• Is this program only in Washington?
• Do they need a work permit?
• How do they get to and from work? -- 14 year olds aren't driving yet.

UW Nurse Camp 2012 for SOPHOMORES OR JUNIORS interested in learning about nursing and how to get in to nursing school. WSU Honors College Summer of Excellence Camp is June 24-30, 2012. This camp is for students that have completed junior year & are interested in learning about the various academic disciplines at WSU. Taylor Glidwell Placed 3rd in WIAA State Wrestling Competition

This past weekend two brothers from Freeman High School, Taylor and Teigan Glidwell, competed in Washington Interscholastic Activities Association State wrestling competition for District 1A, District 7 and District 6 in Tacoma, Wash.

Taylor won 3rd in state for 152, and Teigan was recognized as a state participant, but did not make it to the 2nd day. Both were 1 and 2 at District and Regional.

This past weekend Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Regional wrestling competition for District 1A, District 7 and District 6, was hosted by Colville High School.

February 17-18, 2012, two brothers from Freeman High School, Taylor and Teigan Glidwell,  will compete in WIAA State wrestling competitions in Tacoma, Wash. Both were 1 and 2 at District, and now are 1 and 2 for Regional. Their Coach, Chad Ripke, Freeman High School, was named Regional Coach of the Year. He is now up for Coach of the year at State.

Taylor Glidewell (18 - Senior) 152lb  - won District & Regional
Teigan Glidewell (15 - Freshman) 220lb - 2nd in District & 2nd in Regional.

WIAA is the governing body of athletics and activities for secondary education schools in Washington state. WIAA consists of nearly 800 member public and private high schools and middle/junior high schools.
